Azerbaijan, Always... A Duo?

Dos años, dos canciones, dos cantantes... Azerbaijan envía nuevamente un dúo a Eurovision. Todo parece indicar que están tan obsesionados con los dúos como Andorra con los extranjeros - ver post anterior -

Después de haber botado la casa por la ventana en la Final Nacional del año pasado, llena de luces, invitados y un sorpresivo debut - digo sorpresivo porque no esperaba que clasificaran y/o quedaran en el top 10 - Azerbaijan optó por elegir internamente este año... Resultado: AySel, una cantante completamente desconocida con un ego del tamaño de las Torres Petronas.

AySel actuará en Moscú junto a Arash, compositor de Always y arrocero oficial de la delegación, con una canción que pareciera haber salido del mismo horno que la canción española y turca, con la única diferencia que las anteriores son fan favourites.

Seguramente estarás pensando que seguiré descargando mi odio contra los AySel, su ego y el arrocero de Arash, pero no... La verdad es que esta vez, la televisora Azerí hizo una buena elección. AySel parece ser una buena cantante - en estudio, esperemos que en vivo también - y la canción tiene fuerza y ritmo para clasificar sin problema alguno a la Final.

Los únicos problemas que podrían enfrentar los Azerís en ganar el primer lugar serán: España y Turquía, ambas tienen un ritmo muy parecido, son favoritas al top 5 y se espera presenten un espectáculo que las haga merecedoras del triunfo.

Andorra Goes Nordic

3. ANDORRA

Idioma: Catalán e Inglés
Puesto de actuación: 7 / 1ra. Semifinal

Andorra debutó cinco años atrás en la primera semifinal de Eurovisión y aún esperan que uno de los sobres mágicos que anuncian los finalistas contenga su nombre.

Después de seleccionar tres años seguidos a su representante internamente, y fallar en cada ocasión, la RTVA (Radio Televisión de Andorra) finalmente se dio cuenta que ese método no funcionaba para ellos, por lo que este año la desició cayó en manos del televoto.

Todo parece indicar que Andorra tiene cierta debilidad por los extranjeros, pues siguen fiel a la tendencia de enviarlos como representantes. Este año, la danesa y nada relacionada con el principado, Susanne Georgi - mitad del dúo Me & My - representará al pequeño estado en Eurovisión.

La Teva Desició (Tu Desición) podría describirse como... mid tempo schlager pop rock? La verdad no tengo idea en que género clasificarla. Lo que si sé es que la canción ha sabido colarse y ahora es una de mis favoritas de la primera semifinal. Y aunque me gsutaba más la versión anterior con los coros en catalán, esta versión un poco bizarra de Ginger Spice - ver el video - podría tener oportunidad y convertirse en la primera representante andorrana en la final.

3. ANDORRA

Draw: 7th / 1st. Semifinal

Andorra made its debut in the Eurovision Song Contest back in 2004, when the semifinal system was established, and since then they have waited for the magical envelope with their name inside.

After having internally selected their representatives three years in a row, and to fail in every attempt, the RTVA (Andorran Broadcaster) finally realized that their method wasn't working as they expected - no way! really? That's why the desició was taken by televote this year.

It seems that Andorra prefers foreign singers to represent the tiny country. And true to their traditions, they're sending the 32 years old, Danish born, and not related to the Principality at all, Susanne Georgi - half of the pop duo Me & My - to represent them in this year contest.

La Teva Desició (Your decision) could be classified as... a mid tempo schlager pop rock song? Honestly, I have no idea. But I can say that the song has grown on me and now it's one of my favourites in the first semifinal. And, though I like the previous version with the chorus in Catalan better, this Bizarre Ginger Spice - watch the video and you'll understand - could have a chance and be the first Andorran representative in the Grand Final.

Armenia: A Jam Jar?

2. ARMENIA

Canción: Jan Jan / Ջան ջան
Idioma: Inglés & Armenio
Puesto de actuación: 6 / 1ra. Semifinal

Todo parece indicar que la crisis mundial afectó de manera más severa a los países del cáucaso, pues las pobres hermanas Inga & Anush Arshakyan ganaron la final Armenia gracias a su petición de tres minutos de un tarro de mermelada - el chiste se pierde en la traducción.

A mi parecer, Armenia ha caido en un camino de sombras e incertidumbre este año - quizás debido al hambre que pasan sus representantes. Luego de anunciar sus 21 finalistas a sólo dos días de la final y elegir a las hambrientas Hermanas Arshakyan, la televisora Armenia finalmente decidió que la canción se llamaría Jan Jan y no Nor Par (Nueva Danza) como se había anunciado en un principio.

Teniendo en su haber un muy buen debut y tres top 10 seguidos - incluyendo un top 5 -, Armenia no correrá con la misma suerte este año pues, aunque la versión en estudio de la canción es mil veces mejor al directo, la hambruna de Inga & Anush les resta potencia a su voz y causa que... mis oidos sangren.

Ahora sí, lo bueno de las representantes Armenias es que tienen un estupendo portafolio de fotos, el video es muy colorido y el baile - que seguramente presentarán en Moscú - es muy, muy cómico!

2. ARMENIA

It seems that the South Caucasian countries have been heavily affected by the world financial crisis, since the poor little sisters Inga & Anush Arshakyan won the Armenian National Final singing and asking during 3 minutes for a Jam Jar.

I think, this year, Armenia has lost itself in a path of shadows and uncertainty – perhaps, due to the hunger of its representatives. After announcing their 21 finalists 2 days before the National Selection and having chosen the hungry “sistas” Arshakyan, the Armenian Broadcaster named the song Jan Jan instead of Nor Par (New Dance).

After making an excellent debut and making it to the top 10 three years in a row – even one top 5 -, Armenia won’t be lucky enough this year, even though the studio version is better than the live performance. Nevertheless, Inga & Anush's hunger makes them sing so bad that makes my ears bleed.

Ok, now… the good thing about this year Armenian representatives are their photo book, the preview video, which is really colorful and the dance routine – which we’ll probably see in Moscow – it's really, really funny!

Albania, Take Me In Your Dreams

Luego de pensar una y otra vez por cual país comenzar, decidí ir por lo seguro y hacerlo alfabéticamente.

01. ALBANIA

Cantante: Kejsi Tola
Canción: Carry Me In Your Dreams
Idioma: Inglés
Puesto de actuación: 16 / 2da. Semifinal

Después de tres largas noches decembrinas de presentaciones, Kejsi Tola ganó el Festivali I Kenges convirtiéndola en la 6ta. representante Albanesa en el Festival de Eurovision.

Originalmente titulada Më merr në ëndërr, literalmente: Llévame en tus sueños - un poco obsesionada ella - la canción sonaba mucho mejor que la versión definitiva con un minuto menos, en inglés y con un nuevo arreglo que mezcla lo folk con sonidos electrónicos haciendo que te pierdas y no le prestes atención a la letra.

A pesar de tener un buen puesto de actuación, haberse ganado a unos cuantos con la versión en Albanés - como a mí - y tener al coreógrafo de Kalomira (Grecia 2008), el gran problema que tiene esta niña es que baila menos que yo! Y eso es bastante decir. La pobre parece que tuviera pegaloca en los tacones que no le permiten moverse y si no ha aprendido a bailar desde diciembre, no creo que pueda montar una coreografía de marzo a mayo.

Aunque... no debemos dudar el poder mágico de los griegos. Ellos hacen que muchachas insoportables como Kalomira alcancen un tercer puesto entre 43 países.

01. ALBANIA

After 3 long nights, last December, Kejsi Tola won the Festivali I Kenges earning the honor to represent Albania for the 6th time in the Eurovision Song Contest.

Originally called Më merr në ëndërr, literally: Take Me Into Your Dreams - I think she's a little bit obsessed with someone - the song was far better than the Eurovision Version shortened by one minute, re-lenguaged and mixing folk with electronic sounds making the Albanian entry sounds like a new song.

In spite of having a good draw at the running order, some fans thanks to the Albanian Version - just like me - and Kalomira's (Greece 2008) choreographer, the big problem with this girl is that she can't dance... I'm a professional dancer next to her. The poor girl seems to have been glued to the floor with super glue, and if she hasn't learned to dance since December, I really doubt she would deliver a great show next May.

Although... we shouldn't doubt about Greeks and their magical powers. They make annoying girls, like Kalomira, reach 3rd. place among 43 countries.

Bueno... heme aquí, cual adolsecente nervioso porque está a punto de perder su virginidad...

Finalmente los nuevos "eccenarios" de la comunicación, como diría una antigua profesora, pudieron más que mi fuerza de voluntad por impedir tener más cuentas, que dedos en mis manos, abiertas en internet.

La idea de este blog es, en un principio, comentar las 42 canciones participantes en el próximo Festival de Eurovision. Aunque no dudo que lo use para cualquier otra cosa luego...
